This was certainly one of the more unusual shows I’ve been fortunate enough to work on, as well as a team of talented creatives we had the help of 100 primary school children (the ‘Young Producers’) who were helping call the shots on how the show developed. I ran music workshops with each group of Young Producers to explore ideas for the music / sound and also give them an idea of how a composer makes sure a score advances the narrative and enhances a show.
After that we recruited a team of actor-musicians and began to develop ‘The Boy Who Became A Beetle’, a fun and fast paced adaptation of Kafka’s Metamorphosis. There were songs, puppets, and an elaborate smoke spouting ‘verminator’ machine. Keep your eyes peeled as we’ll be touring the show again nationally in 2017.
